To Shave or Not to Shave

Ah, nothing like an up the nostril shot. So, has he decided yet?

Yeah, I wonder why ya don't see more of these nostril shots..

He has not decided. Tough commitment for a boy who is already somewhat noncommital in the hygiene dept, IYKWIM.

Advice?

I say either way at this point. I'm sure it's a pain to keep up once you get it started.

Love the angle of this photo (despite the nostril view!)

My question is ... where did you get the cool green background?

(My eighteen-year-old and sixteen-year-old sons both shave at random. It's not like a definite commitment. You can shave for a week, then decide to let it grow again. None of the men in my extended family shave on weekends or on vacations so we are all used to the scruffy look.)

Wow, I can't believe he let you take that, and that he let you put it on the blog. Seems very un-14-years-old.

Nathan started shaving at 15, I think. He had the moustache but not the chin hair. John gave him a regular razor and it seems like for several months, his face broke out. If I had to do it again, I'd recommend electric razer first.

Margaret - thanks for being willing to overlook the nostrils ;).

Jo(e) - background is the wall color at our video game store.

Ianqui - it was out of character for him to let me take the picture. And he grunted his displeasure when he saw it up on
the blog :).

Susan - thanks for the advice about using the electric. He turns 15 this summer and may make is *official* start then.

You know we had the same quandry in January with our 15 year old. My dh kept on wanting to hold off, but I got tired of his face looking dirty!

If he went to Catholic school with my 13 yo ds, it would be off! The Peach Fuzz Police are out there! He came home claiming to need to shave per instructions at school...and he has NOT ONE hair on his chin. It would be like shaving a cue ball. But your son would definitely get detention with that crop o' fuzz. :-)

Nathan turns 15 this summer too, and he started with the electric razor on the chin this spring. He is still trying to grow the moustache, though :)

I say hold off as long as possible. There's a long, annoying life of shaving ahead of him, so why start any sooner than necessary?

I remember those days! My 3 sons have long since had their first shave, but I remember the fuzz, and that in-between thing...is this the son who wrote a blurb on religion on his blog? If so, tell him I feel it to on a lot of days--maybe even most days.

As a guy, I second Scrivner. Hold off as long as you can! :)

Noah does the non-committal shave routine like Joe's boys. We see beard growing for weeks and then a sudden shave. :) Seems the style for this generation.

A tip for him. When he will see his front neck getting fuzzy (and/or black hair suddenly sprouting from his adam apple) remember that it's all about normal. About what is a man supposed to do in such case, the answer is to shave(yes, there too). How far down the neck? As far as the hairs in there go, even lower than his adam apple if necessary, meaning the whole front neck, not lower or he will shave his chest. Go downside up to the adam apple and upside from the adam apple down. Also shave eventual hair on the upper cheek. It's just hair and the razor is there to take it off if he doesn't like it ;-)

I ran in to this blog and I'm 16. For some reason when I was around 13 and even still kind of now, I got nervous/shy about people knowing I shave. I don't know why but it hasn't gotten to embarress me any more. Now if some one said I need to shave or Do you shave, I would, "I know" and "Yes" respectively. Howevever a couple years ago when I was fourteen, I would be so embarressed like I said if my parents had brought it up at a family event or something like that. So what I'm trying to get to is I think Shaving should be his choice when he comes to it and if is embarressed or shy like I was, then sooner or later the hairs will of grown out and he will be embarressed about that and ask to shave. Or do what I did and gets some sissors and cut little hairs. Other teen guys however, are proud to start shaving and want to start immediately so that can be a "man"! So its up to you. If it gets too bad, make him shave, otherwise he will eventually bring it up. I just wouldn't announce that he needs to shave at party. That might embarress the crap out of him like it would to me.

Hunter mcmillian. I'm the one before you I'm 22. You are comfortable with your hair? Then keep it.How much hair do you have? How coarse or thick. Where? Just mustache, chin, sideburn? And or below the jaw, neck, on your adam apple. I'm glad to give you advice. Bye
